What is CREW?
CREW is a special time when students in each grade meet with their CREW teacher to do various activities in order to develop empathy, a sense of belonging, and a connection with others. At Futuro Verde, we don’t have passengers, we are all members of a CREW. This special time happens twice a week: on Mondays during the first hour of school and on Fridays during the last hour of school.
During CREW time students from pre-k to 12th grade plan the details of their annual field trip: the destination, budget, fundraising plan, transportation, etc.
It is important to remember that the students are in charge of raising funds for their field trips. This activity brings them together and brings the focus away from any socio-economic differences of the students, while also making it easy on parents’ pockets.
In addition, this year each CREW group will choose a cause that they identify with and want to work on to create positive change.
How can you help?
Throughout the year, each CREW group will organize activities to raise money for their field trip and the cause they have chosen to support. Some of the fundraising activities include: school sodas (selling food), toy sales, bake sales, no-uniform day passes for students, raffles, movie nights, and other clever fundraisers invented by our students!
If you would like to help with our students’ CREW efforts, send a little extra money with your student so that he or she can enjoy the tasty snacks students sell at our soda (restaurant/ kiosk). We will have soda every day during the month of March except: March 2, 3, 5 and 30.
Students may also participate in the no-uniform day if they buy a ticket for ₡500. In March, we will have the following non-uniform days:
- March 13, to benefit 7th grade
- March 27, to benefit 9th grade
- March 30, to benefit 3rd grade

We are nearing the end of the school year and this also means that some fantastic celebrations for Middle and High School students are coming up!
In 2015 and again in 2018, high school students had a magical and unforgettable night together filled with dance, a fire show, and an amazing time all dressed up with their friends.
Prom is an anticipated event by all, and it is not only attending it that makes it so appealing and exciting, yet also being able to participate in its organization and production! That is why this year, we have 2 dance committees made up of students, parents and teachers taking care of all the logistics.
Two committees?
Yes, there are two committees this year! One prom committee with 9th to 11th grade students and another, consisting of students from 6th to 8th grade, organizing the first Middle School Dance at Futuro Verde.
Both committees have the task of carrying out all the event logistics such as music, food, venue, dance theme, date, price, activities and much more. Everyone is working hard so that both dances are successful and fun. Below you will find detailed information regarding both proms:
PROM for students from 9th to 12th:
Theme: An Arabian Night

Time: 6:00 to 11:00 pm
Place: Quebrada State, Las Delicias
Admission: only for students from 9th to 12th and their companions (from 15 to 19 years old)

Middle School Dance from 6th to 8th grade:

We hope to continue with these important student traditions which develop excellent life skills such as organization, planning, communication, oracy and creativity, conflict resolution and teamwork. Encourage your children to be part of the 2020 dance committees!

This event allows students to express themselves, through music and literature. Our debut was on March 28th, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, at Futuro Verde Educational Center. Garage bands, dance, poems, and songs crowned the night. 11th grade prepared a soda full of delicious food and snacks. There was a jam session time for those who wanted to improvise and showcase their talent. We are grateful for the support of parents, family, and friends.
The reason behind this CAS project is the lack of artistic expression in this area. We know that some places, offer Open Mic nights, but more are needed. Many people want to showcase their talents, and do not have the opportunity. This is why we felt the need to create a space where students, teachers, and parents get together during an afternoon of entertainment filled with improvisation in both music and literature.
We know that more and more people are going to want to participate, so we decided to organize one every two months. We are counting on the collaboration of parents to announce the event to more people!

Futuro Verde is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with great happiness and pride. Throughout the year we have been participating in several fun activities and making commemorative souvenirs with much attention to detail and love, a trademark of Futuro Verde´s education and commitment.
- The celebrations began in February with students painting a new mural made with the aim of beautifying the school. It is installed outside the library, brightening up our sports area with its vibrant colors.
- In the month of April, in celebration of Earth Day, we planted the seeds of our “Founders´ Garden” in the center of the school.
- On Mother’s Day, on August 14th, all students received a Futuro Verde / IB anniversary pencil and a note with the slogan “Making 10 years of history, thank you for leaving your mark!”
- On August 17, to continue with the celebrations of Mother’s Day, “Prom” students organized a movie afternoon with popcorn and babysitters, giving parents the opportunity to enjoy a romantic dinner in local restaurants where the students and the FV administration secured them discounts!
- For the Day of the Child, the FV Student Government outdid themselves with the coordination and creation of a large number of fun activities for the children: Dodgeball tournaments, volleyball, table tennis, soccer , board games, chess, face painting, movies with popcorn, karaoke, wii games, and many more. As a special treat, a cookie with a gluten-free option for celiacs (Futuro Verde is always attentive to everyone’s needs) was given to the children.
- During Civics Week we are showing off a new banner, which is already installed at the entrance of the school.
We still have a whole trimester of classes and many more surprises to go to celebrate the 10 year existence of our Educational Center! Stay tuned, more activities in October, November and December coming your way!

Futuro Verde teaches students to appreciate their surroundings and to make the best of jungle life! This school year a committee of teachers and students have been tasked with the challenge of organizing a chaperoned, formal school dance, called prom, for our eldest high school students (9th -11th graders). This formal dance will start a new school tradition of a formal dance to be held toward the end of each school year. The prom committee has worked all year to make this event a success and raise the funds needed by October, in time for the prom in November. The efforts so far have been focused on fundraising money to buy the food, drinks, and to pay for the DJ and also have focused on organizing the logistics of the event. This year’s prom will be especially important because our school is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Holding a formal dance is a special way of commemorating this exciting anniversary.
For those of you unfamiliar with the American tradition of prom, it is a magical night and a part of many high school traditions around the world. We want our school to join in this tradition as a way of creating lasting memories for our high school students. As the dance is a chaperoned event, it is a safe and fun way to socialize, dance and create lasting high school memories!
We would appreciate any and all support we can get for our prom. There will be a couple of activities held to support our fundraising goals. The first event our committee is holding is a Date Night to be held in two locations, Cobano and Mal Pais, on August 17th. This initial fundraiser is a great way for dads to celebrate moms after Mother’s Day, with a romantic night out together while your kids are cared for by responsible high school students and adult chaperones.
Thank you for your support and see you at Date Night on August 17th!

Mark your calendars, student-led conferences are coming up on September 10, 2018. Please plan on having your child present to lead the conference. Student-led conferences are an integral part of the Futuro Verde culture and have many different benefits for both parents and students alike.
As parents, your role in the conference is to listen to your child as they explain their successes, growths, reflections, and goals for the future. Then, it is also important for you to give your child feedback on areas of growth that you have seen and wish that you would like to see them accomplish.
The student’s role is to be able to express their own growth within the learning process through work samples, reflections, and goal setting. We expect students to share their information in an organized manner, be good communicators, and be able to answer your questions as they arise to better explain their learning.
Different from parent-teacher conferences, the teacher’s role is mainly to help facilitate the conference, with the student as the leader. Teachers will guide students through the reflection process as they prepare to share their learning in this specific format. Because they play a more passive role in this type of conference, you might find that the teacher will facilitate several student-led conferences at once.
At Futuro Verde, we strive for our students to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, independent, and reflective. Research shows that student-led conferences are one way to actively engage students in the learning process and provide them opportunities to develop the aforementioned traits. Student-led conferences also allow parents to play a more active role in their child’s education by offering the time and space to share learning and ask clarifying questions. Futuro Verde welcomes all families to take part in this special day to share glows and grows of each and every student.
