Here in Preschool it should come as no surprise that our priority is…FUN!
Yes, we are responsible for our student’s first experience of what school is and yes, we take that responsibility very seriously.
Yes, our students learn about the structure of school and what the expectations are for their behavior.
Yes, our students are learning how to socialize with other students, how to form friendships and how to resolve conflicts.
Yes, our students are engaged in a rigorous academic program where they are obtaining the basic skills of literacy, numeracy and critical thinking that they will require to succeed in future grades.
BUT… our philosophy of instruction is based on PLAY. Multiple studies over decades of research have shown that all students, but especially those 6 and under, learn most effectively when they are enjoying the learning process. In our classroom, we ensure that our instruction is play based by providing a variety of activities for our students to choose from during center time, allowing our students autonomy over their learning. We build up our skills to work on whole group projects, and go on journeys of investigation as a class. We allow the students to explore the concepts of each unit, taking into account a variety of learning styles: auditory, visual, reading and kinesthetic.
We are honored to be charged with the facilitation of an engaged and enjoyable relationship with learning for our littlest school citizens. We thank you for reading and leave you with one suggestion ….go outside and PLAY!

Greetings to everyone from the Preschool Department at Futuro Verde!
Many parents and educators are coming to us with the same question: how are our littlest learners adapting to the new restrictions at school put in place due to the COVID – 19 pandemic?
The answer: extremely well! Children the age of our preschool and Prep students (3-6) are neurologically designed to adapt to their surroundings. They thrive when presented with consistent routines, clear instructions and firm boundaries.
During the first week of school Stephanie, Yensy and I worked hard to establish routines which incorporate our school`s health protocol: consistent and correct handwashing, eating and playing in contact bubbles, and keeping all food and utensils for personal use. While mask wearing is not required for children under six, we are also working to the best of our ability to minimize physical contact of all kinds. Our students are doing a wonderful job of following these rules, and learning how to have fun in a way that is different from past years.
While all parents are, understandably, concerned about their young children being exposed to viruses and bacteria at school, as an educator I want to emphasize the importance of social interaction for children. This is true for all children but especially for kids under 6.
For healthy growth, their brains need the kind of stimulation that school can provide. They need to experience conflicts with their peers in order to build appropriate socio-emotional skills. They need to move their bodies for gross and fine motor skill development: without reinforcement in these skill areas, our young children run the risk of losing this essential window of development.
In order to ensure that our students continue to have access to social and academic support during the current global pandemic, we will continue to place utmost importance on the consistent adherence to health protocols. At home, parents can help us in this process by reading all school emails thoroughly, and by reinforcing hygiene and health regulations.
We want to thank the preschool parents for their wonderful communication so far this year, and to encourage everyone to send us an email with any questions or concerns that they may have.
Best wishes for a safe and healthy school year!

As yearly tradition dictates, Costa Rica celebrates and breathes its “Civic Week” in commemoration of its independence in the month of September.
The Civic Week is the appropriate framework for the development of commemorative civic events related to the anniversary of Costa Rican Independence. The focus of these activities is a series of civic celebrations highlighting the topic of values duly authorized as formative events within the educational process.
This year, big and small will join the party, with dances and costumes, patriotic corners, music and traditional food. There will be activities such as the torch run, the lantern parade and the evening participation in the civic week, culminating in the display of the September 15th parade, when drum rolls resound and the streets fill up with colorful parades reflecting the joy with which Central Americans began their path of freedom.
