At Futuro Verde, we believe in the transformative power of physical and outdoor education to foster growth, resilience, and a connection with the natural world. Our Physical and Outdoor Education Program combines dynamic sports training with immersive outdoor experiences, ensuring students develop physically, cognitively, and emotionally.
Outdoor Education Adventures
Our Outdoor Education Program introduces students to the wonders of Costa Rica and beyond through:
- Day Trips and Field Expeditions: Students explore the region’s biodiversity, geology, and cultural heritage with hands-on experiences in nature.
- Overnight Expeditions: Students from Primary to Secondary levels participate in enriching overnight trips, including on-campus overnights for younger students and expeditions to iconic destinations across Mesoamerica.
- International Travel Opportunities: Secondary students enjoy the chance to embark on international trips every three years, visiting countries like Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, or the Dominican Republic.
Skills and Activities
Our program equips students with valuable life skills, including:
- Outdoor Survival: Tent setup, backpack use, fire-starting, and navigation.
- Aquatic Skills: Snorkeling, open-water swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
- Adventurous Exploration: Hiking, camping, horseback riding, spelunking, and ziplining.
Learning Through Nature
On-campus, students engage with the rich biodiversity of Futuro Verde’s grounds. With over 400 species of plants and animals, they can:
- Observe ant colonies and iguana habitats.
- Study aquatic organisms in streams and puddles.
- Learn about the behaviors of our resident howler monkeys.

Our Physical Education Program focuses on holistic development through:
Preschool
- Developing basic motor skills through play.
- Instilling healthy habits early, including nutrition and hydration.
- Creating a positive and joyful environment for physical activity.
Primary and Secondary
- Building physical skills in coordination, agility, strength, and endurance.
- Promoting teamwork, respect, and fair play.
- Enhancing bilingual vocabulary through sports.
- Developing proficiency in sports like swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and athletics.

- Swimming: Progressive skill development based on FINA standards.
- Outdoor Activities: Focus on endurance, teamwork, and resilience.
- Athletics: Training in running, jumping, and throwing for speed and agility.
- Team Sports: Technical skill-building in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and baseball.
