healthy food

School snack shops, called Sodas here in Costa Rica, are an integral part of school life- offering up snacks and refreshments to compliment the lunch hour food for students, staff and visitors.  Futuro Verde has many connections to the local community and our school Soda is a great example of the integration of Tico culture into our school.  Our Soda for years was run by a parent volunteer, then staffed by a member of our kitchen staff and this 2017 school year is heading in an exciting new direction!

Futuro Verde’s school Soda will now be run for two exclusive purposes only:

  1. School-wide, the Soda will be scheduled to provide each grade level class multiple opportunities to sell homemade and nutritious snacks in order to support fundraising initiatives for their yearly field trip.  Stay connected, via your child’s planner or by e-mail with your child’s homeroom teacher, in order to help send in healthy contributions for your child’s scheduled Soda.
  2. Futuro Verde’s 10th grade class will be taking over the general operation of the school Soda on non-fundraising days in order to put into practical use their studies involving innovative thinking, business development and communication. Stay tuned for updates on this new and exciting initiative as the year progresses!

Please refer to pages 10 and 19-22 of this year’s handbook to read our full school policy and to learn more about Futuro Verde’s commitment to nutrition and our latest student-led initiative- the Futuro Verde student-run Soda!
