Dear Futuro Verde Community,
With excitement, renewed commitment, and sure hope, we have started the 2024-25 academic year, our sixteenth year as a school! Over the summer, many wonderful things have further strengthened our school, and I am excited to share some of these advances and achievements with you.
First, we celebrate the outstanding results of our International Baccalaureate Diploma students (Class of 2024). Their results in the IB Diploma exams were the best in the history of our school, with a 100% pass rate, our highest average to date, and the highest individual score ever achieved. We congratulate our teachers and students for their effort and dedication. Their hard work has been recognized by the IB Program, and we, as a school, are grateful to be able to celebrate this with you!
Secondly, we ended the 2023-24 year with a positive fiscal surplus, which allowed us to make significant investments in our campus. We dramatically improved our three secondary classrooms by expanding them and adding new roofs, ventilation windows, doors, and air conditioning. The large sliding glass doors and wide windows still allow for an open classroom plan, with breezes flowing through the space.
Our other classrooms were repainted, and some were equipped with TVs as part of our ongoing efforts to expand our technological footprint. These investments significantly enhance our learning spaces, better regulate sound and light, and, of course, keep our classrooms cool, all while preserving the visual connection with our beautiful forest. Throughout the year, we will continue to look for ways to improve our campus, focusing on creating cooler spaces for our students.
Thirdly, our renewed and new gardens are flourishing! Our eco-management strategy of composting and using leaf litter for our old trees is working wonderfully. The more than 120 new flowering plants, bananas, and fruit trees that our students planted through our unique project-based environmental science program are thriving! Our green footprint has become simply impressive, and our campus biodiversity count initiative has already surpassed 320 species. Yes, so many species inhabit our 1-hectare campus.
We have reviewed our IB novel and textbook lists to better align them with our students’ reading levels, fostering a school culture centered on reading and writing.
Our field trip and expedition program continues to grow, with new equipment for camping and outdoor activities. We are excited to begin to offer new outdoor skills experiences like snorkeling and kayaking.
Most importantly, we have hired six highly qualified new teachers from the U.S., Colombia, Spain, and Costa Rica. Diverse, bilingual, and well-educated, the strengthening of our academic team is, of course, key to enhancing our academic and curricular offerings. These significant advances are possible thanks to our improved financial health, experienced and knowledgeable decisions, an increasingly qualified staff, and, above all, thanks to all of you: a committed school community. Together we continue to strengthen our school in the jungle. Thank you!

Con emoción, renovado compromiso y segura esperanza, hemos iniciado el año académico 2024-25, ¡nuestro decimosexto año como escuela! Durante el verano, muchas cosas maravillosas han fortalecido aún más nuestra escuela, y me emociona compartir con ustedes algunos de estos avances y logros.
Primero, celebramos los resultados sobresalientes de nuestros estudiantes del Diploma del Bachillerato Internacional (Promoción 2024). Sus resultados en los exámenes del Diploma IB fueron los mejores en la historia de nuestra escuela, con una tasa de aprobación del 100%, nuestro promedio más alto hasta la fecha y la calificación individual más alta jamás lograda. Felicitamos a nuestros profesores y estudiantes por su esfuerzo y dedicación. Su arduo trabajo ha sido reconocido por el Programa IB, ¡y estamos agradecidos como escuela de poder celebrarlo con ustedes!
En segundo lugar, terminamos el año 2023-24 con un superávit fiscal positivo, lo que nos permitió realizar inversiones significativas en nuestro campus. Mejoramos dramáticamente nuestras tres aulas de secundaria, ampliándolas y añadiendo nuevos techos, ventanas de ventilación, puertas y aires acondicionados. Las grandes puertas corredizas de vidrio y las ventanas amplias aún permiten un plan de aula abierto, con brisas que atraviesan el espacio.
Nuestras otras aulas fueron repintadas, y algunas fueron equipadas con televisores como parte de nuestros esfuerzos continuos para expandir nuestra huella tecnológica. Estas inversiones mejoran significativamente nuestros espacios de aprendizaje, regulan mejor el sonido y la luz, y, por supuesto, mantienen nuestras aulas frescas, todo mientras se preserva la conexión visual con nuestro hermoso bosque. A lo largo del año, seguiremos buscando formas de mejorar nuestro campus, con un enfoque en crear espacios más frescos para nuestros estudiantes.
En tercer lugar, ¡nuestros jardines renovados y nuevos están floreciendo! Nuestra estrategia de eco-gestión de compostaje y uso de cama de hojas para nuestros árboles antiguos está funcionando maravillosamente. ¡Las más de 120 nuevas plantas con flores, plátanos y árboles frutales que nuestros estudiantes plantaron a través de nuestro programa único de ciencia ambiental basado en proyectos están prosperando! Nuestra huella verde se ha vuelto simplemente impresionante, y nuestra iniciativa de conteo de biodiversidad en el campus ha superado ya las 320 especies. Sí, tantas especies habitan nuestro campus de 1 hectárea.
Hemos revisado nuestras listas de novelas y libros de texto del IB para alinearlas mejor con los niveles de lectura de nuestros estudiantes, fomentando una cultura escolar centrada en la lectura y escritura.
Nuestro programa de excursiones y expediciones sigue creciendo, con nuevos equipos para campamentos y actividades al aire libre. Estamos emocionados de ofrecer experiencias como esnórquel y kayak.
Lo más importante es que hemos contratado a seis nuevos profesores altamente calificados de EE. UU., Colombia, España y Costa Rica. Diversos, bilingües y bien educados, el fortalecimiento de nuestro equipo académico es, por supuesto, fundamental para mejorar nuestra oferta académica y curricular. ¡Asegúrense de revisar sus perfiles en nuestras redes sociales!
Estos avances significativos son posibles gracias a nuestra mejor salud financiera, decisiones experimentadas y con conocimiento, un personal cada vez más calificado, y, sobre todo, gracias a todos ustedes: una comunidad escolar comprometida.
